My name is Alex and I am from London, UK. I am a bar tender by profession. Due to my slightly stressful job, where client always comes first I decided to find myself a hobby, but not sure which one. I am quite interested in anything to do with handmade crafts. All the advice will be appreciated.

Hello Alison,
Sorry, it takes me a while to respond, but that's the job I have not much time to spare. Card making sounds quite interesting. You've been doing it for quite a while so probably have a whole collection by now. Do you have any examples of your work? Would be great top have look at.
I was also doing some searching on the internet on paper crafts and found a craft / hobby called origami. I've heard about it somewhere before, but was not sure what it was. It is the art of paper folding and I am thinking to give it a go. All I need is some paper and a lot of patience :)
Cheers
Alex

Hi Alex, how are you? I have a suggestion for you. If you like to make things, have a look on my album A pressed flower picture and the explanation How to make a pressed flower picture and you might just find something that you like doing. Good luck.

Hello
You could try jewellery making, its great for giving people for gifts and you can wear your peices as you work. you can choose how much you do and when you do it which i suppose is the point of crafts. If you like you can find classes in your local area (any good bead magazine). it is far easier to learn from someone you can ask questions than a book!
hope you manage to find something that suits you!

Hello Heather,
Thanks for your reply. Can you recommend any online material I can have a look at with some examples or tutorials?
By the way, I had a look on your album with the jewellery that you've made. It looks really pretty. Where do you sell your work?

Hi Alex
if you have a look on http://www.bead-patterns.com/ you can find easy to follow instructions for jewellery. There are a selection which are free to download. the best thread to get is called KO thread (its flattened and waxed so it doesn't knot or fray as much as regular beading thread). Depending on the patterns you choose depends what beads you need. You will need a beading needle as regular sewing needles are too thick and the beads don't slide on. My favourite websites are www.gjbeads.co.uk and www.stitchncraft.com for supplies. There are lots of sites out there but don't buy lots of things until you know what you want to do with them. I ended up getting a lot of beads before i really knew what i was doing.
thank you glad you liked them. I have only really started selling them to family, friends and colleagues (my gran is one of my frequent customers!). I usually make to order as i haven't had time to build up much of a stock yet.
I would recommend you look for a local class, many of them aren't expensive and it can really help if you can ask someone if you get stuck. let me know if you want to know more.

Hi Heather,
Thank you for your advice. There is plenty of information to go through, so I guess I just have to start somewhere.
All the best,
Alex

Hi Julie,
I think painting as a hobby is great, but it would probably require a long time to learn painting?
